Let us understand, therefore, that the LORD our God is indeed God, that He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations, and that constantly loves those who love him and obey his commands. (Deut 7:9)
In the beginning God created (Gen1:1), and then God commanded (Gen 2:16) This first commandment is the basic commandment of God, don't disobey me.
God’s commandment to Adam was the first revelation of God’s Covenant with His creation. He has a single covenant established prior to creation and then revealed in a progressive way with the perfect revelation in Jesus Christ our Lord.
God’s Covenant was given for our good! (Deut 10:12-13)
And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? (Deut 10:12-13)
(God said) When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth." (Gen 9:16)
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, (Heb 13:20)
God’s covenant relationship involves the promise of life and death, a blessing or a curse. All of mankind are under this covenant and will either be found guilty under the law or will be granted mercy under grace.
We have been granted the freedom to chose God’s justice or His grace. John 3:18 says if we believe in Jesus there is no condemnation (grace), but if we do not believe we are condemned ALREADY.

In the book of 2 Timothy, Paul tells Timothy that he had been taught the Holy Scriptures from childhood, and they had given him the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. Paul goes on to say that all of Scripture is inspired by God, that it is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives, that it straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right, that it is God's way of preparing us in every way, and that it fully equips us for every good thing God wants us to do. (2 Tim 3:15-17)
The purpose of this blog and of Four Soils Ministry is to encourage the understanding and application of God’s Word. The Word of God is a schoolmaster that points a person to Jesus Christ.
Blood of the New Covenant
The New Testament is sometimes referred to as the Old Testament revealed. For example the following New Testament Scriptures shed light upon the fact that Jesus’ crucifixion initiated the New Covenant (the real). All the Old Covenant revelations were only a shadow pointing to the first coming of Christ , His crucifixion and eventual His coming again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
The old system in the law of Moses was only a shadow of the things to come, not the reality of the good things Christ has done for us. The sacrifices under the old system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. (Heb 10:1)
All these events happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us, who live at the time when this age is drawing to a close. (1 Cor 10:11)
For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. (Hebrews 8:1)
This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Egypt. They did not remain faithful to my covenant, so I turned my back on them, says the Lord. (Heb 8:9)
for this is my blood, which seals the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many. (Mt 26:28)
Have you received His forgiveness?

God’s covenant is the basis of His relationship with mankind. It explains who He is and what He expects of man.
It its simplest form it is “don’t eat”, do not disobey me! God’s covenant starts with this simple statement and then is expanded with each new covenant revelation. Each revelation is added to the previous ones. For example all the things He told Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David are still in effect. He is faithful to His covenant for a thousand generations.
Jesus said I came not to abolish but fulfil the covenant. His blood was the blood of the everlasting covenant.
A proper understanding of this covenant relationship is critical in our relationship with our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Four Soils Ministry has developed an unique Bible study surveying the entire Bible around the theme Jesus and Him crucified.
Comments and questions are welcome. May God bless you this day.

Have you ever thought about the fact that God has an everlasting (eternal covenant) that He made with His creation. Galatians 3:16 tell us that the promised seed to Abraham was Christ. Other Scripture will tie together the seed promise to Eve, Judah, and David being the same as the one promised to Abraham.
The promise seed to each of these individuals were part of a larger promise that Theologians refer to as a covenant revelation. Therefore not only were the seed promise consistent, from a practical sense the other elements of the revelations were accumulative. For example the promises of the covenant revelation to Satan, Adam, and Eve after the sin of Adam and Eve is still in effect. Women still have pain in childbirth. Men still work by the sweat of the brow. The earth is still under the curse.
Jesus said not one letter or part of a letter of the law (covenant) will pass away until all is fulfilled.
Galatians 3:29 states “And if ye [be] Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Are you heir of the promise made to Abraham?

Before the world was created God knew that Adam and Eve would break His eternal covenant. Therefore God planned a way of restoration through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and then kept the plan a secret, because of freedom He had granted man. Not only had man sinned by choice, if they had known of God’s plan of the cross, they could have attempted to prohibit the crucifixion by choice.
However Jesus had revealed this plan in Mt 16 to the disciples. After Jesus has asked Peter who did he say that Jesus was, He tells the disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, suffer, die, and resurrect on the third day. This is the message of Easter.
Jesus died, buried and resurrected. Romans 10:9 states that if you shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.
This is the message of Easter. Do you believe this?

In the beginning God created and after He created Adam and Eve He commanded them not to eat. God’s commandments (covenant) are given for our good (Deut 10:13). God in His foreknowledge knew that Adam and Eve would sin and therefore He put a plan in place for mankind to be restored.
The Bible tell us in 1 Cor 2:7-8 that “the secret wisdom of God,* which was hidden in former times, though he made it for our benefit before the world began. But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would never have crucified our glorious Lord.” Jesus crucifixion offers us a way of restoration.
We have been granted the freedom to chose God’s justice or His grace. John 3:18 says if we believe in Jesus there is no condemnation (grace), but if we do not believe we are condemned already.
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, (Heb 13:20)
Are you covered by the blood of Christ?

In Deuteronomy 7:9 God says "Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and constantly loves those who love him and obey his commands." A couple of comments about this verse are in order. First God uses the term covenant not covenants. Elsewhere God speaks of an eternal (everlasting) covenant.
Saying that God keeps His covenant for a thousand years is the same as saying everlasting. He is a faithful God and always keeps His covenant.
